[ABOUT]

I'm an independent photographer based in Los Angeles, California (and formerly of Brooklyn, New York). Lisa Whiteman Lens is my photography portfolio.

me I photograph people. I document everything, from the significant moments to smaller, and more spontaneous ones. I'm equally at home shooting formally posed pictures, or capturing people in more candid, private moments -- on the street, at work, or wherever the subject appears most comfortable.

Beyond capturing the expressions and gestures, I aim to reveal something about a person's character and attitude. I think one of my natural strengths as a photographer is an ability to make people feel very at ease in front of the camera, and that comfort is essential in creating a very natural sense of intimacy between the viewer and my subject. I sincerely love taking pictures, and as a result, I bring a considerable amount of energy to my work. I carry a camera with me everywhere, and when I'm not taking pictures on assignment, I spend time photographing family, friends, and strangers.

My photographs have appeared in advertisements, films, and publications including Interview Magazine, Salon.com, and The New York Times; on album covers, book jackets and corporate web sites; and in restaurant and museum exhibits. Recently, my photos were included the Transformed by Light: The New York Night exhibit at The Museum of the City of New York.

If you'd like to purchase my photos or if you're interested in hiring me, you can take care of that here. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and am open to taking on a wide variety of photo projects, large and small.

Please ask before using my photos for any reason. (Thanks!)

[Details: I currently use a Nikon D80, a Holga, and occasionally a Nikon 8008. Some photos on this site were taken with a Nikon D70, an Olympus 5050, or a Canon Powershot S3 1S. This site was designed by me and is hosted by phpwebhosting.com. Michael Brown wrote the clever code ("imagesource") that powers the photo album. The higher your resolution, the better this site will look.]

There's also a site map.
